Xwejni Bay Qolla and its layered clay nodule top, with light coloured sandstone on its top |
| « Previous |
The Xwejni Bay Qolla (The White Hillock) in Gozo near Marsalforn is a light grey clay Mound that has iron concretions in it and ironstone below it. The top section is the classic Qolla top of being slightly larger and of a different material than the base. You will see this in a larger scale on most of the normal hills/escarpements in Gozo and Malta. Xwejni Beach Qolla, also known as Il-Qolla l-Bajda (The White Qolla) has light yellow sandstone (white gold sandstone) as its cap slab. Below that are different layers of clay nodules that look like they are forming into stones or rocks. Nearby is Il-Qolla Is-Safra (The Small Yellow Mound) that is formed of yellow sandstone and after that is Tas-Salvatur Hill (The Saviours Hill) that was formed around yellow sandstone. Is Xwejni Bay Qolla one of the starting creation phases for Qollas in Gozo and Malta? http://www.geulogy.com/introdis-qollabajda-tony.html
